Wow - there is just so much going on in Cairns this weekend! Just one example is the 2016 RACQ North Queensland Games, which will feature 2000 athletes competing in 30 sports. One of the cycling events will be happening at Edge Hill on Saturday from 7.30am. Unfortunately this means Collins Ave outside The Tanks and part of the Botanic Gardens will need to be closed to traffic from 6am until 3.30pm. But don't worry, the gardens are still open and Sunbus will be using alternate stops to get people there. So why not come along and cheer on our cyclists in their effort to be the best in NQ!
See 90's indie guitar-pop legends Custard this Friday at Tanks Arts Centre for just $35! Make sure you like the Tanks page while you're at it to keep up to date with all the latest news! :)
If you've been wondering what the massive pipes around the sporting precinct at North Cairns are for, they are the area's new sewer main. State-of-the-art trenchless technology will be used tomorrow to take them deep underground without cutting up the surface. Mayor Bob Manning and Cr Max O'Halloran were on site today with JPMI's John Moore to check it all out. http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/council/news-publications/media-releases/releases/sewer-pipe
There will be a temporary closure of the Rinks Close Jetty at Stratford later this week while we do some repair works. Apologies for any inconvenience.
A giant thanks to everyone who made it to Pets in the Park today. And a special thanks to Canine Training School, Eastern Canine and Greencross Vets for volunteering their time to run classes; and to Pets Cafe for donating great prizes for the Pets Parade. Here are a few highlights from the day.
Visitors had a chance to chat with local vets and dog trainers, such as Linda Mair from Canine Training School who ran an obedience class to kick off the day.
It's getting busy down here at Ravizza Park. Come join us for Pets in Park.
If your business is doing new things, or you know someone who is, be sure to nominate for our Tropical North Queensland Innovation Awards.

We are doing some works at the intersection of Grafton and Florence streets tomorrow that mean the traffic lights will be out of action. Police will be directing traffic between 6am and 6pm. Thanks for your patience.

Bring your pet down to Ravizza Park next Saturday for Pets in the Park. There's a pets parade with prizes for the best dressed pet, pet with the waggiest tail, tallest and smallest pet, and many more categories. We have free classes in dog obedience, pet first aid and dog leadership. There'll be faceprinting and jumping castle for the kids and a wealth of information and market stalls.
