Holding exhibitions or events at Court House Gallery

Events and exhibitions for Court House Gallery are developed in partnership with local, state and national arts and cultural organisations and individuals.

Court House Gallery is one venue in the development of a Gallery Precinct and will serve as an entry point, a gathering place and a high-level arts and cultural presentation space for the Precinct.

Our programming criteria has been informed by consultation involving national arts and cultural leaders as well as local Indigenous and cultural industry representatives.

To have your events, exhibition or program considered as part the Court House Gallery program please register below your expression of interest (EOI) using the online form.

Your EOI will be assessed against programming criteria by the Artistic Director and Curator, Cultural Services.


Programming criteria

  • Focus specifically, but not exclusively, on celebrating and supporting contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts
  • Celebrate our city’s unique environment and heritage and celebrates the art and culture created in Cairns
  • Celebrate the heritage nature of the buildings in the precinct
  • Develop and nurture curators and other arts professionals in our region
  • Focus on activation and programming which builds a deep connection with the local community
  • Display innovative programming
  • Build relationships with other galleries to host touring exhibitions
  • Offer a diverse range of arts experiences with a focus on outdoor and garden areas hosting changing public art
  • Present multi-arts events in varied spaces within the precinct including live performance and interactive exhibitions

Spaces at Court House Gallery

  • Two white-wall galleries, suitable for small exhibitions and workshops
  • The Court Room - suitable for installation art and gatherings
  • The Front Lawn - suitable for outdoor events and temporary public art installations
  • Outdoor spaces which link Court House Gallery to other buildings in the Precinct, suitable for breakout spaces and temporary public art.
