Economic event partnership grants are open to not-for-profit organisations and community organisations for events held in the Cairns Region.

To be eligible for these grants, an event must generate positive community, tourism and economic benefits for the region:

  • out of region visitation at a minimum of 500 participants/visitors;
  • total visitor nights at least 1000 (e.g 500 overnight visitors who stay in the region at least 2 nights);
  • produce a $1m to $3m economic return to the region.

The purpose of the Economic Event Partnerships is to nurture and grow a diverse portfolio of events to:

  • drive positive economic returns for the Cairns community;
  • raise the profile of the Cairns region nationally and internationally; and
  • generate positive social and cultural benefits and inspire the residents of Cairns.

Applications are assessed by a panel of two Council officers in consultation with Tourism Tropical North Queensland. The final decision on successful grants goes before the full Council for approval.
