We could be looking at some serious rain over the next few days. With that in mind, the message is a simple one: if it's flooded, forget it! It's simply not worth the risk.

With all the thunder this week, there has been an increase in lost pets coming to our pound in the past few days. Before you leave your furry friend for the day, please make sure they are safe and secure inside your property. Provide a comfortable space for pets to wait out the storms. Leaving something with your scent on it, such as an old shirt, can also help to keep pets calm. To check if you pet is in the pound, see our Lost Pets page on our website: http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/payments/impounded-pets

It's still too early to talk locations and intensity, but it is timely to review your Household Emergency Plan, check your emergency kit and consider what you might need to do IF a severe weather event directly threatens our region. Follow Cairns Disaster Coordination Centre for further updates.

**BEACHES CLOSED** All Cairns beaches except Holloways Beach are currently closed. An irukandji jelly was found at Yorkeys Knob this morning and chances are they'll be hanging around nearby beaches. Please do not swim at a closed beach. If you visit a beach that is open, please stay inside the stinger net and wear protective clothing.
