Water mains to be replaced at 19 locations

Council has committed $4 million to replace water mains at 19 locations as part of an ongoing maintenance program.

The Annual Water Main Replacement Program involves the replacement of ageing and/or deteriorated water mains to maintain the structural integrity of the water network.

Selection of water mains to be replaced as part of the program are determined by the maintenance management system, which identifieswater mains that are aging and of poor condition and have logged more than three breaks in a two-year period.

Council has endorsed the $4 million project to be included as part of the 2023/24 Budget.

Water mains at the following locations are scheduled for replacement:

  • Wilkinson St (English St to Eureka St), Manunda
  • Grove St (Martyn St to Dunn St),  Cairns North
  • Gatton St (Brown St to Aumuller St), Westcourt
  • Cairns Esplanade (Charles St to Cairns Hospital), Cairns North
  • Anderson St (Mayers St to Pease St), Manunda
  • Draper St (Mulgrave Rd to Scott St), Portsmith
  • Hawkins St, Gordonvale
  • Chaplain Ave, Manunda
  • Pioneer St / Little Pease St, Manoora
  • Survey St, Smithfield
  • Hardwick St / Wilunga St, Stratford
  • Sydney St, Smithfield
  • Jones Rd to Bruce Highway, Gordonvale
  • Yurongi St, Caravonica
  • Mcilwraith St, Manoora
  • Woodward St (Heavey Crescent to Nolan St), Edge Hill
  • McLeod St (Aplin St to Florence St), Cairns City
  • Grimshaw St (Draper St to Bunda St), Portsmith
  • Pinetree St, Bayview Heights
