Learn how to get an old bike back on the track, refurbish that weathered outdoor chair, or be creative and turn junk into a piece of art at the Trash to Treasure Fair.

Being held at the Buy Back Shop in Portsmith on Saturday 2 September, the free all-ages community event aims to promote the importance of reusing, rethinking, and repurposing unwanted items that would otherwise end up in landfill.

The event will feature a wide range of hands-on workshops, local stallholders, exciting giveaways, family, food options, entertainment and games for children.

There will be a free sausage sizzle, with donations encouraged to support Youth Link, which provides supports and services for young people aged 12 to 24 years who are at risk, homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The community can look forward to engaging activities such as clothing rescue, palm frond basket weaving, sculpture creation, toy weaving, furniture restoration, and soft plastic wrapping.

There is also the opportunity to learn new skills, such as woodworking tools and techniques, and bike repairs and servicing.

There will also be a chill out zone with a free book giveaway and a Father's Day craft stall for children.

Mayor Bob Manning said the Trash to Treasure Fair was a great opportunity for the community to come together and learn about the value of waste, through reusing, repairing, and repurposing unwanted items.

“The event aims to educate and inspire the community to find creative ways to give new life to old items, reducing waste and promoting sustainability,” Cr Manning said.

“By attending the Trash to Treasure Fair, residents can learn valuable skills and discover the potential in items that may have otherwise been discarded.
