Tennis club merger serves up improvements and a new name

Earlville and the Woree Tennis Clubs will merge to form the Henley Street Tennis Club.

The merger follows the relocation of the Woree Tennis Club to Lions Park in Earlville last year to enable the upgrade of the Rigg/Windarra intersection and allow for the progression of the Jeff Pezzuti Park Masterplan.

As part of the relocation, Council committed to a $2.9 million upgrade of Lions Park, which included the construction of four new tennis courts, lighting and a 34-bay carpark to allow for both the Woree and Earlville clubs to use the venue concurrently.

Once the upgrade is complete, the Henley Street Tennis Club will have a total of eight tennis courts, providing more opportunities to host more and higher-level tournaments.

Council today endorsed a 10-year lease agreement with the Henley Street Tennis Club, while also allowing the Woree Tennis Club to continue using the two remaining courts at Jeff Pezzutti Park until they are either removed as part of masterplan redevelopment or are no longer required by the club.
