Apprentices and trainees will get more opportunities under a formalised agreement between Cairns Regional Council and TAFE Queensland.

Council will enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the state’s leading vocational education and training provider to help grow Cairns’ appeal as a nationally and internationally renowned education city.

TAFE Queensland plays an important role skilling the local workforce with industry specific qualifications at the Cairns Campus, and the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College.

Education and training are the region’s fourth largest industry, with a total economic impact of $673 million and supporting 8,418 jobs.

The MOU will strengthen the relationship between Council and TAFE Queensland to provide training opportunities to enhance skills for Council’s 1300-strong workforce, including apprentices and trainees.
