Switching to re-usable options and compostable alternatives helps avoid about two million individual plastic pieces at Council venues.

Council today voted to continue its single-use plastic policy, which places single use plastic free conditions for Council-run venue hire, events and markets.

Council will also continue to partner in the Plastic Free Cairns program to support local food businesses to phase out single-use plastics.

Through the policy, Council also supplies compostable cups and dog waste bags at popular areas.
