The Cairns Show Association will be offered a 20-year lease at their current location.

Council today endorsed tenure agreements with six community organisations at the Showgrounds and Barlow Park reserves.

In offering the organisations tenure agreements, consideration was given to the proposed development of the site into a Major Events Precinct, as well as the impact of the 2032 Olympics.

As anchor tenant of the future Major Events Precinct, a trustee lease renewal of 20 years will be offered to the Cairns Agricultural Pastoral and Mining Association (Cairns Show Association).

The term will provide the Cairns Show Association with sufficient tenure to secure grant funding to maintain and upgrade facilities.

Cairns Brass Inc, which has been at the site since 1994, will be offered a 10-year trustee lease.

Council will offer a new tenure arrangement of 10 years directly to Cairns BMX Club Inc, which has been subletting from the Cairns Show Association for over 40 years.

Trustee permits of three-years will be offered to Cairns Youth and Recreation Centre Inc, Cairns Meals on Wheels Inc, and Cairns Athletics Inc.

Council officers will also assist The Kennel Club to secure a long-term subleasing arrangement with the Cairns Show Association.
