Free green waste disposal at waste transfer stations

Council will hold a free green waste disposal from the 6 to 14 January 2024 to assist residents in clearing their properties following the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

This is in addition to the four free green waste disposal periods offered annually, which are scheduled to occur in February, May, August, and November 2024.

Cairns Mayor Terry James said that Council’s waste transfer stations are near capacity after a busy waste drop-off period leading into Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

“We know that residents are keen to clear their yard, but Council needs to clear the waste transfer stations before we can accept large amounts of waste.

“Please be patient, our staff are working to clear the waste we already have, in preparation for January’s free green waste drop off period.”

Please note, there will not be a kerbside collection for green waste. However, small amounts of green waste can be placed in red/green-lid residential bins.
