Council will provide almost $20,000 in support to the Bats and Trees Society of Cairns Inc. (BatSoc) to support wildlife flying-fox carers in Cairns and to continue education and community engagement initiatives.

In recognition of the ecological and environment importance of flying-foxes, Council has committed to providing BatSoc with $12,600 cash and up to $7,200 via in-kind support for use of a Council storage facility at Lake St Car Park, baby bat signage at requested flying-fox roosts, and for the provision of other education materials.

BatSoc is a not-for-profit incorporated entity – their primary activities seek to engage and inform the local community about flying-foxes through events and educational talks.
