Proposal to improve safety at Portsmith intersection

Council is hoping to secure Federal Government funding to help improve safety at the intersection of Kenny and Dutton streets in Portsmith.

Seven crashes have been recorded at the intersection over the past five years, with four resulting in hospitalisations and three requiring medical treatment.

A review of the incidents revealed most crashes involved a vehicle turning right from Dutton St into Kenny St, or the vehicle intending to drive straight across Kenny St.

Council will apply for $101,563 (ex GST) from the Black Spot program to undertake a traffic analysis to determine the feasibility of prohibiting right turns from Dutton St to Kenny St, and design and implementation of infrastructure changes.
