ROSS Planning was commissioned by Cairns Regional Council to develop a master plan to consider current and future sporting needs for Gordonvale and the broader southern catchment area.

A master plan provides a vision for a site, identifying what it should look like and how it should function in the future. It establishes a strong and consistent direction by providing a framework for ongoing improvement. It considers the interrelationship between:current character and functionality of the landscapepublic expectations and needsemerging issues and trendsthe realities of the economic, social, environmental, and legislative context of the time. The project area covers approximately 60 hectares.

Current sporting facilities include, Alley Park (currently catering for Rugby League, Touch and Judo), turf club, golf club, the Gordonvale Aquatic Centre, and a large section of underdeveloped land to the west of the Precinct currently being utilised for the E2G project.

The Gordonvale Sport and Recreation Precinct Master Plan (draft) provides an achievable strategic plan to meet the current and future sports needs of Gordonvale, as well as provide opportunities for people living in nearby communities.

The Plan responds to projected population growth, and the expressed needs of user groups, as well as other key stakeholders. It sets out a plan to ensure future development meets the growing community’s need for appropriate sports facilities.

We recently ran a survey to gauge the local Community’s views on the draft Gordonvale Sport and Recreation Precinct Master Plan.

We would like to thank all those who participated and provided valuable feedback. We will take the results of the survey to help inform the final Gordonvale Sport and Recreation Precinct Master Plan.
