A Special Meeting will be held at 9am on Wednesday 29 November 2023 at the Cairns Regional Council Chambers (Level 3, 119-145 Spence Street, Cairns) to appoint a new Deputy Mayor.

The appointment of a new Deputy Mayor is required as Cr Terry James, who was the Deputy Mayor, was last week elected by a majority of Councillors to serve as the city’s Mayor until the local government elections in March 2024.

This followed the resignation of Bob Manning as Mayor on Friday 17 November.

Council is also following the requirements under the Local Government Act 2009 (LGA) to fill the vacant Division 4 Councillor position for the remainder of the term, which is vacant following Cr James’ appointment as Mayor.
