Areas are quieter

Each event at the Munro Martin Parklands is unique, so sensory experiences may differ from one performance to another. Use this guide as a general reference to help you anticipate and prepare for your visit. For event-specific information, we encourage you to contact our Box Office in advance. Our staff is here to help, so don't hesitate to ask for assistance during your visit if you need it.
Arriving early can sometimes help you to avoid crowds. These performances often have large crowds and can be noisy. There may be different coloured lights that can be bright. You can sit on the grass and bring things like picnic rugs and chairs. You can stand and move around. Different sections are usually marked out for standing, sitting on the ground or using chairs.
Munro Martin Parklands is an outdoor venue. It is open 6.30am to 6.30pm every day except on ticketed event days.
Closures are advised on the MMP Facebook page, and signage notifying of periods of closure is included outside all the gates. Upcoming events are listed on CPAC website.
We are located 123 Sheridan St, Cairns City. The front of the venue faces the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, with the main entrance on Florence St. During the day, there are entrances from Sheridan Street, Minnie Street, and Grafton Street.
You can find parking information on the Accessibility Page.
There is free and paid street parking surrounding the park. There is also a car park at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, which can be accessed via Grafton, Sheridan or Florence Streets. This car park is free when attending visiting a performance.
The central bus terminal is located on Lake Street opposite the Cairns City Library. Please refer to the TransLink website for bus routes and timetables.
You may like to bring some items to make your visit comfortable, such as a water bottle, sensory tools, headphones or earplugs, sunglasses, or a jacket. Please note that if you bring a bag, it will need to be able to fit under your seat or on your lap.

You may also like to bring your own rugs, blankets or chairs to sit on.
Umbrellas are allowed in the venue but are not to be used during the performance, as they block the view of other patrons.

Taxis will drop you off or pick you up at the drop-off point, to the right of the Box Office.

There are two accessible parking bays on Florence St.

Munro Martin Parklands (MMP) is open for everyone most days. There are also special events and performances throughout the year. Event starting times vary, so it is best to check the website for your event.

There are 6 entrance gates to Munro Martin Parklands. More information on entrances can be found here.
The main entrance is on Florence Street.
During a performance or event, you must enter and exit through the main gate.
During events, the main gate can be noisy and crowded.

You can buy or collect your ticket at the box office at the main entrance.
If you already have your ticket with you or on your phone, you can go straight to the gate to be scanned in.

At some events, all patrons may be asked to present their bags and belongings for inspection at the entry points.

You are not allowed to bring BYO alcohol or anything that could be used as a weapon.

As you walk through the main gate, you will see the amphitheatre terraces to the left hand side.
You will also see a pathway that loops around the whole parklands. You can use the pathway or walk across the grass.

Additional flat reinforced areas with concrete and artificial turf directly in front of the stage and in front of the first terrace are suitable for wheelchairs.
You may choose to sit on the ground, stand or sit in a folding chair if you have brought one. There is a viewing pavilion for wheelchair users.

Paths take you to the toilets and viewing pavilion.
The Viewing Pavilion is a raised platform area. You can use the ramp or the steps to get here.
It is concrete and covered; however, rain may enter from the sides.

The toilets are under the Viewing Pavilion. There are male, female, and unisex accessible bathrooms. There are hand dryers in these toilets, so sometimes it can be noisy.

On larger events extra portable toilets will be available near main toilets.

Look out for the Quiet Space symbol

For some events, a Quiet Space is provided. Depending on the event, this may be at different locations.

It has bean bags, chairs, earmuffs and other sensory items.

For most events, there are food and drink vendors situated to the right of the stage.

You can usually pay with card or cash. There are barriers for creating queues.

When you are ready to leave, you can exit the way you came in, via the main gate. After an event, the main gate may be crowded and noisy. When there is not an event on, you can exit the parklands using all the other gates.

You are welcome to explore the parklands. On the other side of the gardens, there are plenty of trees and shaded areas.

When there are no events, the parklands are often quiet and not busy. You will hear background traffic noise and sometimes planes. As it’s outdoors, it can be a bit bright (from the sun).

Registered Assistance Animals are welcome at Munro Martin Parklands. However, other animals are not allowed.
