Cairns Esplanade

The Esplanade, Cairns

The Cairns Esplanade is a 2.5km stretch of foreshore in the heart of Cairns. The picturesque palm-fringed waterfront has a swimming lagoon, parklands, playgrounds, and barbecues, all of which is free and available for public use.

During Festival, the Esplanade is transformed into a buzzing epicentre, hosting a temporary Festival stage with free live music and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, as well as children's activities, free open-air cinema and more, while the road that runs alongside the Esplanade hosts the Grand Parade.

The Cairns Esplanade has accessible compliant graded paths, accessible parking and drop off zones located around the site (please see access map below). Please note that the accessible toilets use the MLAK national keying system. The key to the accessible toilets is available from Council staff, the Lifeguards and the Cairns Festival information booth.

Car parking is available along the length of the Esplanade as well as on-street car parking spaces throughout the Cairns CBD. Parking restrictions and fees may apply.

If you have any questions about access at the Cairns Festival please email festival@cairns.qld.gov.au.

"Late afternoon sees the Cairns Esplanade come alive with a flurry of people out for evening jogs, sharing ice creams, cooking dinner on the free barbeque facilities or wandering past restaurants deciding where to dine." - Tropical North Queensland
