Some festival events are for quiet reflection. These are not those. Cairns Festival is serving up 10 days, 10 ways to experience it all and LAUGH is your invitation to surrender to the strange, the joyful, the wildly interactive and the beautifully unhinged.
Welcome to LAUGH. Where the entertainment gets a little cheekier, the audience may become part of the show, nostalgia comes with shoulder pads, and “what exactly is happening?” becomes part of the fun. Come with an open mind. Leave room for the unexpected. This is a festival that refuses to sit still. WANDER, GATHER, IMAGINE, LAUGH, PLAY, ESCAPE, HONOUR, DISCOVER, DANCE and CONNECT your way through Cairns Festival with us.

ARCO SNR brings Adam Kelly's award-winning story to mature audiences with humour, honesty and one very memorable fish. Adam is autistic. Finbar lives in water. Ask Adam what it feels like to live with autism, he says, and it's a bit like asking Finbar if he knows he's wet. From there, ARCO opens into a funny, heartfelt and imaginative look at connection, rejection, celibacy, optimism and trying to find your place in the world. Expect jokes, heart, movement, animation and a perspective that stays with you. Finbar may be a fish, but he gets it.
When: Sunday 30 August. 7pm.
Where: Cairns Performing Arts Centre.
Tickets: $35.

Disco Bingo Trivia brings the laughs, the tunes and the "how do I know every word to this?" energy to the Esplanade Main Stage. Hosted by the Sassy Catz, this free festival night digs into Cairns' rich music history with curly questions, throwback moments and just enough nostalgia to have you mentally searching for your old band tee. Come with a team, come with your best guesses, or come with someone who insists they are "really good at music trivia" and then immediately panics. There will be music. There will be memories. There may be competitive whispering.
When: Tuesday 1 September. 6.30pm to 8pm.
Where: Cairns Esplanade, Western Lawn.

Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, One Hour Wedding is a gloriously unhinged, laugh-out-loud experience where anything can happen, and probably will. Chaotic wedding planners Rach and Roz have 60 minutes to pull off a full wedding, with a little help from the audience. Actually, total help. You choose the dress, the flowers, the first dance, the song, the cake and the theme. The clock is ticking. The bouquet is in the air. Roz is a legal celebrant. Singles, consider yourselves warned — you might leave with more than just a great night out. Wild, ridiculous and completely interactive, send the "save the date" now.
When: Thursday 3 – Saturday 5 September, every night at 6pm. Plus an extra show on Saturday 5 September at 8.30pm.
Where: Tanks Arts Centre, Tank 3.
Tickets: $49.

Dirty Fame Flash Candles Club is a gloriously nostalgic night of cult movie references, big songs, dance routines, strange rituals and unapologetic friendship energy. It shines a light on the middle-aged fight many women turn up for every day — caring for children, caring for parents, balancing careers, friendships and the general business of holding it all together. Relatable much? Four friends find refuge in each other and the Dirty Fame Flash Candles Club. Come join this footloose foursome for a fearless, frivolous night of dirty dancing, one-liners and memorable freeze frames. Smack on the iridescent lipstick, kick off your Sunday shoes and get ready for the time of your life.
When: Saturday 5 September. 7.30pm.
Where: Cairns Performing Arts Centre.
Tickets: $55.

That is the joy of LAUGH. Stories that make you think, shows that drag you into the chaos, trivia that tests your memory, and performances that remind you a good night out should come with at least one “what just happened?” moment.
Cairns Festival 2026 is calling. Bring your open mind. Bring your loud laugh. Bring the friend who is very easy to embarrass. Then let the night do its thing.
