As part of the Cairns Music Industry Gathering, The Next Wave brings the next generation of original musicians from the Cairns region to the Tank 5 stage.
Presented by Enter Stage Right, this artist development initiative supports emerging artists to grow their skills, build confidence and gain valuable experience performing in a professional live music environment.
From rehearsal rooms to the spotlight, The Next Wave celebrates the creativity, ambition and diversity of Cairns’ homegrown music community, showcasing the artists who are shaping the future of our region’s original music scene.
Lineup:
Heather Kelly is an acoustic guitar and banjo slinging singer-songwriter from Cairns. Having performed in some intimate venues, Heather is excited to showcase her alt-folk stylings on the big stage.
Rae is a singer-songwriter who resists easy definition. Blending stripped-back folk with hip-hop and musical theatre influences, her music cuts straight to the core of what it means to be human. Compared to artists like Ani DiFranco, Ren, Missy Higgins, Rae delivers performances that are intimate, confronting, and deeply powerful.
FOULPLAY is a rising four-piece rock band blending the grit of grunge, the energy of rock and the intensity of metal into a sound that is entirely their own. The band is driven by a shared passion for music, and a commitment to delivering unforgettable live performances with precision, energy and authenticity.
The Cherabins are a band of four Cairns-based mates crafting witty soft rock, funk, and soul influenced originals inspired by life in Far North Queensland - its wildlife, its characters, and the culture that ties it all together.
Icaro brings Reggae Roots, Dancehall, Afro Latin, Hip Hop and more to the stage. Raised in Colombia amongst the ethnic rhythms of the tambores and maracas, Icaro’s vision is to share his mix of traditional culture and reggae music.
