Work to expand Edmonton’s Petersen Park will start on Monday, with the project to double the playing space for local rugby league teams. Stage 1 includes the preparation of 12 residential lots that will be sold to offset the cost of the expansion. Division 2 Councillor John Schilling said the lots were expected go on the market around the middle of the year. “By then, we’ll be turning our attention to the creation of two brand new, full-size rectangular playing fields along Petersen Road,” Cr Schilling said. “These fields will be used by senior and junior rugby league, creating more opportunity for residents to get involved in organised sport on our rapidly growing southside.” Stage 3 will comprise a new amenities block, clubhouse and carparking for 169 cars plus bus parking. Fencing will be installed from Monday 13 February, with site preparation works to commence soon after.
