Touring Australia for the first time, Bakersfield College Chamber Choir will make their Australian debut in a one night only concert event, alongside well-known locals, Soul Song Choir.

Dr. Jennifer Garrett, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Bakersfield, is excited at the opportunity of touring to Australia. A popular clinician and guest conductor in the United States, Dr Garrett’s love for music began at a young age.

Bakersfield will be joined on stage by Cairns own Soul Song Choir. Founded by director Jacqueline Larsen, Soul Song has a broad membership of teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students and retail workers.

While Bakersfield is an auditioned choir singing mostly classical and contemporary classical music, Soul Song is unauditioned and enjoys a broad repertoire including pop and gospel, so Cairns audiences can expect the best of both musical worlds when the two choirs meet up.

The main driving force behind Soul Song is passion, passion for the music and passion for each other. They are looking forward to sharing the stage with Bakersfield College, a group of people who are clearly committed to their art.

The concert will definitely have a bit of something for everyone.
