Venues for events can be either:
- Council owned; or
- Privately owned.
Council venues can be further broken down:
- Council owned and managed venues (The Esplanade, Tanks Arts Centre, Barlow Park, Munro Martin Park)
- Council owned but leased (eg Cairns Showgrounds, Petersen Park, community halls, public swimming pools)
- Public spaces (local parks)
Contact Council to book Council owned and managed venues or public spaces. To book Council owned but leased venues, you will need to liaise directly with the Lessee. If you are unsure on whether a facility is Council owned or controlled ( PDF, 0.14 MB ) please contact a member of the team on 1300 69 22 47.
A good place to start with privately owned venues is the Tourism Tropical North Queensland website.
Don’t forget, if your event is likely to change normal operations around a neighbourhood (such as excess noise, increased parking), you must conduct sufficient community consultation (for example: letterbox drop, advertising, community meeting etc,). Most neighbours are happy to put up with a few changes if they are consulted before-hand. Don’t forget to include both businesses and residential addresses. This should be undertaken a minimum of two weeks prior to the event.
