Council has multiple grant funding streams. Specific to events are the following grants (for full details on the event specific grants, please see our Grants guidelines booklet ( PDF, 0.54 MB )):
- Event In Kind – anything that Council considers “core business” can be supplied up to the value of $3,000. Core business would exclude any resources or services that Council would have to procure from outside organisations.
- Local Event Grant – this is a competitive grant round open four times a year. Your event will be assessed against all of the other applications that are lodged for each round. This grant supports the delivery of events that are of benefit to the local community.
- Regional Event Grant – this is for larger events that draw in attendees from outside of the local community, enhancing the region’s economy, promoting Tropical North Queensland, and generating positive social and cultural benefits for the region. Applications must be received for this grant, no later than 6 months prior to the event.
- Major Event Grant - for nationally significant events that drive economic activity in Tropical North Queensland. Major events attract interstate and international visitors and national media exposure, produce $3m to $10m economic return to the region, generate community pride, social and cultural benefits, and provide a lasting legacy to the Tropical North Queensland region.

Tourism and Events Queensland have published a comprehensive “Grants Guide” for the whole process of accessing and applying for grants.
Sponsorship is also another source of funding that you will need to pursue to become self-sustainable and independent from Council funding.
If you are required to provide further community benefit information for your funding applications, the Economic Benefit – event impact calculator is a great tool.
