Free breakfast for the riding community from 6:30am to 8:30am, on the Esplanade lawns inbetween the Reef Eye and the lagoon.
Participants can WIN a brand new NORCO STORM 4 BIKE thanks to Bicycle Central on Mulgrave!
Other activities include:
- free sports massages
- Bicycle servicing for Bianchi, Cervélo and Focus bikes thanks to Trinity Cycles
- Triple M Street Crew on site
- Give the Air Dyne Challenge a go thanks to Genesis Cairns City. Get the best distance in one minute and win the 6 Week Challenge in the Coaching Zone (valued at $355), and visit the Genesis Fitness Marquee and go in the draw to win a 3 month Gym Membership
Ride in as part of our Cycle Packs with our designated Bicycle Buddies. Cycle Packs will be in operation on the day and allow people riding from outside of the city centre to ride to the breakfast with other riders from their area. These are great for those not confident enough to cycle on their own, and utilise Cairns Regional Council's cycle paths. Anyone wishing to be part of a "Cycle Pack" should be at their nearest station 5 minutes prior to departure.
KEWARRA via Smithfield, Caravonica, Redlynch, Freshwater, Stratford, Aeroglen: led by Councillor Brett Olds, departing 6:00am from the bus stop at the Kewarra Beach roundabout.
MANUNDA via Bungalow and Parramatta Park: led by Councillor Richie Bates, departing 6:30am from Harald Falge Park
EDGE HILL via Manunda and Cairns North: led by Christine Posgate, departing 6:30am from Edge Hill State School
These experienced cyclists will lead each "Cycle Pack" into the breakfast event at an easy pace allowing even the most basic rider to participate. Why not give it a go?!
Ride2Work Day is the largest celebration of commuter riding in Australia. The day celebrates the benefits of riding to work and brings together the communities that support it.
The main objective of the day is to encourage more Australians to ditch their cars and start riding to work as a regular habit.
Riding to work is one of the easiest and most time-efficient ways to fit exercise into a daily routine. By swapping the car, train or bus for a bike, you can get your recommended daily exercise without having to spend extra time or money at the gym. We promise you’ll be happier and healthier for it!
