Christmas Carols in Cairns
As a result of COVId-19 restrictions on managing social distancing and limits on numbers at public gatherings, Council has had to reconsider how we deliver Carols this year. Unfortunately, it was not considered feasible to deliver a community event and would have excluded many people from attending.
Endeavouring to be as inclusive as possible of the whole community to have the opportunity to either perform or enjoy a Carols experience, Council has come up with an original way to deliver the event as a movie version of Carols in Cairns.
The movie length version now in production will be broadcast across various Council online platforms to be viewed on a smart TV, PC, laptop, mobile phone or tablet via Council’s website, Facebook or YouTube pages.
This will also not be hindered or impacted by weather or changes to COVID-19 restrictions and will enable any family or friends of the performers to share the link to viewers outside of Cairns either intrastate, interstate or internationally.
The show will be filmed and presented from some of our region’s most beautiful and iconic locations showcasing the diversity of our talented Cairns-based artists and performers. It’s going to be a full program featuring a variety of community choirs, dancing groups, soloists and bands, plus the switching-on of the Council’s Christmas tree lights. Santa Clause has been cleared as an essential worker to enter Cairns, so will also be making an appearance.
Get the family together and gather around your smart TV or laptop this year. Dress in your favourite festive pyjamas with popcorn and Christmas treats and sing-along to some classic Christmas carols sung in and around Cairns.
Sunday 06 December @ 6:30pm, Christmas Tree lights switched on approx.6:45pm – turn yours on at home at the same time.
Further details to come, keep up to date via Council's website, newsletters and social media.

Council invite any interested businesses to show their support for this creative initiative and be featured in the production.
It is expected that the reach of this broadcast will far exceed previous community events, with the online link able to be watched live or after the fact and be shared beyond Cairns, potentially worldwide, bringing a whole new audience to this event.
Sponsorship options can include in-kind or financial contribution with varying representation either with watermark logo's on screen, in the credits or through marketing. If interested, please contact the Coordinator Events Delivery to discuss.

The evening doubles as the major fundraiser for the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Appeal. Proceeds from the sale of merchandise goes towards the distribution of food hampers to around 700 local families who might otherwise go without on Christmas Day.
