As part of Councils annual capital improvement program, relining works to the sewer system across various suburbs of Cairns will commence from July 2019 and are expected to be completed by March 2020, subject to favourable weather conditions. These works involve insertion of a liner into the existing sewer pipelines through existing manholes, to extend the life of the assets. Manhole inspections in the Cairns CBD are currently underway.

During the relining works, some minor excavation may be required and construction noise and dust associated with the work may be experienced but will be kept to a minimum where possible. Businesses and residents in close proximity to any works will be notified.

Traffic management will be in place where construction activities affect vehicle and/or pedestrian movements. There should be no disruption to water and sewer services.

Working hours will typically be between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm on Saturday.  Any afterhours work being undertaken will be on an “as required” basis. Night works may also be required during the course of the project, however advance notification will be provided.

Should you require further information in regards to the above work please contact Cairns Regional Council's Customer Service Centre on 1300 69 22 47.
