  • Work period (anticipated): 01/03/2020 to 30/09/2021

As part of Council’s ongoing sewerage infrastructure maintenance program, a major sewage pump station upgrade is being undertaken on the corner of Lily and Sheridan streets, Cairns North.

The project will involve demolishing the existing pump station (SPS K) and constructing a new pump station (SPS NC1) located toward the east of the existing site.

On completion of the project, the new sewage pump station will increased capacity to cater for growing demand, accommodate future connections within the sewerage network, address odour control issues, and continue to provide a reliable sewer network to the community.

Works will commence from March 2020 and are expected to be completed by the end of September 2021, subject to favourable weather conditions.

Construction noise, some dust and odour associated with the work may be experienced during working hours but will be kept to a minimum where possible. The verge on the northern side of Lily Street will be occupied during the works. For periods of time the Lily St will be closed/partly closed to construct underground sewer infrastructure within the road. Traffic management will be in place where construction activities affect vehicle and/or pedestrian movements.

There should be no planned disruptions to water or sewer services during this time.

Working hours will typically be between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 7am to 4pm on Saturday. Any afterhours work being undertaken will be on an “as required” basis and nearby residents and/or businesses will be advised.
