Bridge replacement works are required in Dexter Road, Gordonvale.

The Dexter Road bridge, situated over O’Leary Creek, is over 50 years old and is due for renewal. The deteriorated one-way timber bridge will be replaced with a two lane, single span concrete bridge with improved flood immunity and pedestrian path. Alignment changes will also improve the approaches to the bridge and no load limits will be required. Additional works required include pavement widening and sealing to provide a two lane approach on both sides of the bridge, and modifications to the private access on the western side of the bridge.

Bridge replacement works are proposed to start mid-June 2020 and it is estimated that the project will take around 4 - 6 months to complete, weather permitting. During this time, a full road closure of Dexter Road will be required with detours via Little Rd > Hall Rd > Bruce Highway and Crossland Rd > Highleigh Rd > Cairns Rd.

Council understands that this closure will cause inconveniences and thanks you for your patience and understanding.

Further advice will be issued once construction timeframes have been confirmed.

Clearing the site of vegetation will be required. Should you require additional information, please contact Council on 4044 3303 or email feedback@cairns.qld.gov.au

This $2 million project is being funded by the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program Round Four (R4) and Cairns Regional Council.
