Bus stop improvements are planned for the Cairns Rd stops, near the Pyramid Residential Care Centre.

These improvements are part of a broader Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) Compliance Program of Works across the Cairns region to improve accessibility for patrons using the bus service.

The changes to the eastbound stop will involve removing and replacing the existing bus shelter with a new structure, constructing a new concrete boarding point with access ramp, and installing signage. Changes to the westbound stop involve the relocation of the stop to be west of the Pyramid Residential Care Centre driveway, with a new bus shelter and boarding point to be constructed, as well as a new footpath to connect with the existing pathway. Road pavement works will also be undertaken, along with new line marking at both stops to delineate the bus zones.

Works are programmed to start on MONDAY 11 JANUARY 2021, weather permitting, between the hours of 7.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday (Saturdays if required). It is anticipated that works will take approximately 4 weeks to complete.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your patience during these necessary improvement works.

These works are joining funded by Cairns Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads Passenger Transport Accessible Infrastructure Program (PTAIP) and Bus Stop Shelter Program (BSSP).
