Project Update

This project is approximately 95% complete with new traffic signals now operational. Only minor works remain.

A 40km/hr speed limit will be in place until new street lighting is operational.

Council appreciates your patience and cooperation during this time.

Cairns Regional Council are upgrading the Robert Rd / Bicentennial Rd intersection to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

This $3.6 million project includes the installation of traffic signals, as well as new slip lanes, centre medians, pedestrian crossings, bike lanes and footpaths. The bus stop on the northern side of Robert Rd, in front of Todd Park, will also be reinstated. Whilst works are underway, a temporary bus stop will be located approximately 50 metres east, in front of the day care centre.

Some vegetation removal at the intersection of Bicentennial Rd and Robert Rd will be required, however this will be minimised as much as possible.

During construction, the intersection will remain open under traffic control, as will the Bicentennial Road carpark access to ALF Fretwell Park.

Minor delays may be experienced during this time and we thank you for your patience. Please observe and obey traffic controllers and signs advising the changes to normal traffic conditions.

Weather permitting, works will commence Tuesday 11 June 2019 and it is expected to take approximately four months to complete the project.
