Project update

Works are expected to be practically complete by 30 June 2020 however, the track will remain closed until clean up and minor rectification works are carried out.

Earl Hill is a popular walking area for locals and visitors, with track upgrades recently undertaken by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS) as most of the land is state-controlled conservation park, managed by QPWS.

Council will be upgrading a 300 metre section of track through Council-controlled land that connects to the QPWS trail to create a loop option for users.

The proposed alignment of this section is shown in the attached plan ( PDF, 0.2 MB ). To avoid encroachment of privacy on neighbouring properties, a staircase with handrails scaling up the rock face from the sand is the best option. As the start of this track is a steep incline up the ridge, there are expected to be over 300 precast concrete steps lifted in via helicopter.

Construction is expected to start before June 2020. For further information about this project, please email feedback@cairns.qld.gov.au or call Council on 4044 3303.
