What is live testing?
Nine outdoor warning stations have been installed throughout the Redlynch Valley from Crystal Cascades to Brinsmead, as one component of the Copperlode Falls Dam Emergency Action Plan Early Warning System. Read more about the Copperlode Falls Dam Emergency Action Plan and the Early Warning System.
Now the installation of the outdoor warning stations is complete, testing of the system is required to ensure its viability and to create awareness within the community on what to expect in the highly unlikely situation of a dam related emergency. While the likelihood of a dam failure is extremely low, Council's priority is always focused on the safety of our community and our visitors.
When and how will it happen?
Live testing will occur on October 9 2019 between 10am and 2pm.
Each outdoor warning station will be sounded individually (twice) starting with the station located at Crystal Cascades and working back toward Brinsmead until all stations have been individually tested. View the location of each Outdoor Warning Station.
Once each station has been individually tested, all stations will be tested together (twice).
What will it sound like?
Live testing of each individual outdoor warning station will last for approximately 40 seconds in total. It will begin with a voice activation lasting approximately 10 seconds followed by a siren tone also lasting approximately 10 seconds, and then this process will be repeated.
When all stations are tested together, this same process will apply (10 seconds of voice activation followed by 10 seconds of siren tone. Repeated).
Listen to the siren tone:
"Attention! Attention! We will shortly conduct a test of the emergency warning system. This is only a test, I repeat this is only a test. This is only a test, I repeat this is only a test."
What do I need to do?
This is a test exercise only. However, residents and visitors in the area should familiarise themselves with their own emergency evacuation plan.
