Vegetation control

Council provides a range of services to maintain vegetation in public spaces including:

  • Tree trimming and pruning;
  • Tree removal, including stump grinding;
  • Tree planting;
  • Landscaping of decorative gardens, including irrigation;
  • Mulching of garden beds;
  • Weed control; and
  • Mowing and edge trimming.

Council maintains trees and decorative gardens around the CBD, inner suburbs and major roads in order to help the city blend in with the unique tropical beauty of the region.

Requests for tree trimming or removal are assessed, prioritised and issued to a combination of specialist internal and external resources. Trees that have been removed can often be replaced but only if the original location is appropriate (i.e. doesn’t obstruct visibility or pose a damage risk to surrounding structures).

Landscaping and decorative gardens are maintained by horticultural crews. Servicing frequencies vary based on seasonal requirements of the specific plantings at each location. Activities performed include pruning, hedging, edging, fertilising and mulching.
