Hartley Street car park users are able to pay for parking from their smartphone using the Easy Park app.
By using the app, you can easily park, pay and go about your day without having to purchase a ticket and place it on your dashboard.
The app uses the Hartley Street car park pricing schedule: $1.80 an hour capped at $3 a day.
Easy Park charges a 10% fee per transaction. Under this fee structure, the most you will pay to use Easy Park at the Hartley Street car park is $3.30 per transaction.
Council is trialling Easy Park at the Hartley Street car park, and if successful will consider rolling out the app to other areas of the city. At the moment the app can only be used at the Hartley Street car park.
Please be aware that using Easy Park does not guarantee a parking space at the car park. If you choose to use the app to pre-purchase parking before arriving at the car park, you do so at your own risk. Neither Council nor Easy Park will refund any payments made in advance if a parking space is not available.

What is Easy Park?
Easy Park is an app that allows you to pay for car parking via your smartphone.
Council is trialling the Easy Park app in the Hartley Street car park. If the trial is successful we will look at rolling out the app to other areas.
How does Easy Park work?
Easy Park allows you to pay for car parking via your smartphone.
When you register for Easy Park you enter your vehicle registration details.
These details are then recorded in Council’s enforcement software. When Council parking officers patrol the Hartley Street car park they can quickly see if you have paid for parking via Easy ark.
What does Easy Park cost?
Easy Park is only available in the Hartley Street car park and uses the car park’s pricing schedule: $1.80 an hour, capped at $3 a day.
There is a fee for using the app. Easy Park charges 10% of the total transaction amount. This fee is collected by and retained in full by Easy Park.
The maximum you will pay for using Easy Park at the Hartley Street car park is $3.30 per day - $3 parking fee and 30c transaction fee.
Paid parking at the Hartley Street car park is between 8.30am and 5pm. Outside these hours parking is free.
Easy Park has been set up so you cannot be ‘overcharged’ for parking. You will only be charged a maximum of $3 for parking, plus the 10% transaction fee of 30c.
For example, if you start your parking period at 8.30am and set your end time of 2.30pm (7 hours) you will only be charged the maximum $3.30.
If you finish your parking period before the end time you have set, you will only be charged for the amount of parking from the start of your parking period to when you end your parking period.
For example, if you start your parking at 1pm and set an end time of 3.00pm but end your parking period at 2.15pm, you will only be charged from 1pm until 2.15pm.
If you don’t stop your parking period before the end time you have set, you will be charged up to the end time. Please note that if you continue to park beyond the end time you have set, you may receive a parking fine.
Your total parking fee displays when you set your end time. You can quickly verify that you will only be charged for the time period you have selected by checking the parking fee amount at the top right of the screen.
Where can I use Easy Park?
In Cairns, Easy Park is only available in the Hartley Street car park. It cannot be used at any other car park or for on-street parking.
If the trial is successful Council will look at rolling out the app to other areas.
The Easy Park app is used by many other cities across Australia. Once you have installed the app, it can be used anywhere Easy Park is available.
How do I use Easy Park?
Download the Easy Park app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store then follow the prompts to set up your Easy Park account.
The Hartley Street car park uses area code 60200.
To start a transaction, open the app and enter 60200 in the ‘enter area code’ box at the top right of the screen and tap ‘done’.
Next rotate the pink circle saying ‘spin to set time’ to select the end time for your parking period. The end time is clearly displayed along with the price.
When you have set your end time, tap the pink circle saying ‘start parking’ to start your parking period. You will receive a confirmation message on your screen.
When you finish your parking period tap the pink circle saying ‘stop parking’to end your parking period. You will receive a confirmation message on your screen.
You will also receive a parking summary screen including the amount paid. You can choose to have the receipt sent to you via email.
In the very unlikely event that you receive a parking fine while using the Easy Park app you can use your receipt as proof you have paid for parking.
If you get stuck, there are instructions on the side of the pay and display machines within the Hartley Street car park.
Can I pay for parking in advance?
You can only purchase one parking session at a time. Council does not offer multiple day, weekly or monthly parking options.
Parking sessions start from the moment you tap ‘start parking’ (see How do I use Easy Park). You cannot set a starting time in advance. For instance you cannot open the app at 7am and select a start time of 8.30am.
Paid parking hours at the Hartley Street car park are between 8.30am and 5pm. Easy Park will only charge you for parking from 8.30am and won’t charge you for parking after 5pm.
It is technically possible to start your parking period before 8.30am (for instance before your leave home) and only be charged from 8.30am.
Please be aware that using the Easy Park app does not guarantee a car parking space at the Hartley Street car park. It is recommended that you only start a parking session when you arrive at the car park and have found an available car parking space.
If you choose to pay in advance (for instance from home in the morning) you accept the risk that a car parking space may not be available when you arrive. Council and/or Easy Park will not provide a refund if you pay in advance and cannot find a car parking space.
