Free weekend parking in CBD
Free parking in Cairns CBD from 2pm on Saturdays and all day Sundays, effective Saturday 25 May 2019.
- No time limits during these hours.
- Normal rules apply to loading zones, taxi zones, bus zones, no parking zones and disability bays.
- Paid parking and time limits still apply at the Southern Esplanade (Lagoon) car park and Lake Street multi-storey car park.
- It will take several weeks to update signage and pay machines. This means signs and machines will be incorrect in the short term - but from 2pm on Saturday and all day Sunday, if you don’t pay, you won’t be fined. However, due to administrative complexities, refunds will not be issued if you pay by mistake.
Council provides more than 6400 parking places in Cairns, including 4700 in the CBD, through a mix of on-street parking and off-street carparks.
Parking hours, especially on-street parking, are updated regularly as the city grows, to ensure a regular turn over of vehicles to balance the needs of visitors, shoppers, businesses and employees.
Regulated parking hours in the Cairns CBD are between 8.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Parking times and hours at other locations in Cairns will vary, so please check the signs.
Parking is free for motorcycles parked in marked motorcycle bays and no time frames apply. Motorcycles parked in a standard car bay, or in off street car parks (ie. Lake St) must adhere to signed regulations including proof of payment where required.
