Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre
Hear visiting artist in residence, Mark Tweedie speak about his creative process, painting techniques, and the stories behind some of his recent works. The Australian landscape is a recurring character in Mark’s work and intermittent residencies continue to shape his work in unexpected and invaluable ways. During his Cairns residency Mark will focus on researching and familiarising himself with the surrounding ancient rainforests, gorges, and natural environment.
Mark Tweedie is a Perth-based visual artist. His work is characterised by themes of memory, connection to place, and childhood. Mark’s paintings are autobiographical, whilst presenting universal themes articulating the human condition. He has been a finalist in various national art prizes including the Darling Portrait Prize, the Blake Prize, and the Sunshine Coast Art Prize, and regularly exhibits with Jan Murphy Gallery, Brisbane.
