Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre
The Nature of Nature exhibition, an extension of its successful 2022 debut at the Kite Gallery, highlights the unique perspectives of individuals navigating mental health challenges.
Presented by the Junction Clubhouse Cairns and curated by the talented Jaamy Slarks with production by Mariana Verdaasdonk, it showcases individual works in various mediums, including painting, sculpture, drawing, 3D printing and mixed media. Special communal pieces for The Tanks include “The Mother of Nature”, “Rainforest Man”, and “The Unicorn of Magical Diversity”. The exhibition also includes a collaborative basket project “We are all in it together” with Saltwater Basketry Group, and the evolving “Tree of Hope” created through public workshops with artist Joanne Bingham, with individual pieces becoming part of the artwork and returned to participants at the end of the exhibition. The Nature of Nature exhibition fosters an inclusive community, providing a safe space to connect and share stories.
