Tank 4
Liesl Hull draws everything, with anything. Whatever is in front of Liesl can become the subject of a sketch, or a watercolour painting, or a picture coloured with highlighter pens, if that’s what happens to be at hand.
Still Life (Good Job), however, focuses on just one of Liesl’s strengths as a mark maker, the character of her line. As if to emphasise the importance of each line, Liesl will draw it twice or three times, making sure it is following the right path - not necessarily the same path it followed last time.
For this exhibition, Liesl has practiced an exercise of sitting before an arrangement of vessels, and plants, and other ornamental objects people have brought for her, and rendered what she sees with perhaps the king of the hard line, charcoal.
Still Life (Good Job) is Liesl Hull’s first solo exhibition, and the culmination of several months of concentrated work, improving her compositional skills and expressive use of her materials.
Still Life (Good job) is one of a series of annual exhibitions in the By Myself Exhibition Program, a partnership between Cairns Regional Council and ARC Disabilities Services.
