Fever Dreams is an artist-driven exploration of the gap between the dreams we’re sold and the reality we live. Chosen for their eclectic visions, these four artists offer very distinctive takes on how they see the world.
The artists whilst individually distinct are collectively resonant as they explore themes of what creates a sense of home and community, what we hold sacred and worship, and our pursuit of an ever-elusive paradise, a fantasy we’ve created and feel compelled to uphold, no matter the cost. It’s a dream of beauty, abundance, and freedom, all of which come at a price. The work alludes to overconsumption and the overstimulation that arises when too much comes our way, too fast.
Each person’s reality is shaped by their unique perceptions, desires and circumstances. Beneath the surface of our collective dream lies a deeper truth: things are not always what they seem. Responding to a world where illusion is dressed as aspiration, the artists take time to pause, reflect, and look within. This collaborative installation invites playful inquiry and quiet confrontation, an immersive space designed to delight, disrupt, and disarm... Take a break from the real world and step into ours.

Each day of Cairns Festival, the gallery space transforms into a hub where you can immerse yourself in this fluorescent, textured installation. Relax in the Fever Lounge bar, quietly contemplate your own reality, or meet friends for a drink and a dance to live DJs before heading out to one of the other festival events. Come along to the events to meet the artists, make new connections, and engage in a program designed to challenge, connect, and reimagine the dream.
