Community Activities
The Tanks Arts Centre precinct welcomes community groups to host their workshop, activity or exhibition as part of the diverse program on offer.
Some workshops and activities are held on a weekly basis and others may be a short course or a weekend intensive only.

Please note: The final Heritage Tour for 2020 was held on Thursday 10 December 2020. The Tours will resume on 4 March 2021 and will be held on Thursdays only throughout 2021.
Come along and learn about the history behind the Tanks Arts Centre and Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct. Tours run every Thursday morning from 10am with our volunteer guides.

BOTANICAL DRAWING WORKSHOPS WITH JULIE MCENERNY
A relaxed and enjoyable day drawing botanical studies using watercolor pencils.

DRUM JOURNEY TO EXPAND YOUR JOY & HAPPINESS AND IT RAISES YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
In a Drum Journey you can find your spirit guides and your true inner power, and all you need to do is relax. QI GONG

'Qi Gong (pronounced chee gong) is a wonderful way to release physical tension and let go of emotional & mental stress. You will learn gentle exercises and breathing techniques to enhance the flow of positive Qi (life force energy) throughout your entire body and energy system. Qi Gong brings about a deep sense of relaxation, balances emotional energy, improves physical vitality, and activates more of the body's self-healing potential. RESIN HOMEWARES WORKSHOP
Join us for one of our exciting hands-on and creative Resin workshops. You will be guided through the process in a hands-on experience and create your very own resin homewares set. In this workshop you will add glossy and vibrant resin designs to create a personalised 6 piece homewares set. This set includes, a set of 4 coasters, a cheeseboard paddle, and an oval tray all made from acacia wood. Enjoy the contrast of wood grain and resin magic!
You will learn the skills and safety for mixing and using resin. We use only the safest resin for this range, ensuring that your homewares are safe to use for serving delicious treats. You will also learn how to prepare and finish these surfaces to ensure the best quality product. Your finished pieces will require a drying period of 24hours so will need to be collected after this time from the studio. Board shapes may vary depending on availability.

RESIN ART WORSHOP
You will be guided through the process in a hands-on workshop and create your very own resin artwork. You will be provided with a 50cm round (or hexagon) panel and dyes, pigments and pearlescent powders needed to create artworks with resin. We will be demonstrating how to work with the resin and how to mix colours and techniques for applying and creating designs. Your finished artwork will require a drying period of 24hours so will need to be collected after this time.

LITTLE TACCAS
You're never too young to develop a green thumb! The Little Taccas program offers young children an appreciation for nature. Aimed at children 5 and under, this fortnightly program features nature-based activities in the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, including art and craft, storytelling, sing-alongs and garden discovery walks.

PIANO IN PARADISE
Piano in Paradise is a new, fun and informal way of learning basic piano over an 8 week short course for adults.

DRAWING AND PAINTING WORKSHOPS: TEXTURAL PATTERNS IN NATURE WITH SONIA LA SPINA
Depict and replicate patterns from nature, using charcoal and mixed media. The Artist will instruct on various mark making techniques and pre-format in producing a mixed media painting on canvas.
