History behind the name
Named after the road it is located on. Kamerunga Road, Freshwater/Stratford is named after the township of Kamerunga. So called because it was the road to Kamerunga from Stratford and Freshwater. The road was gazetted in 1936. Prior to 1937 it was known as the Cairns - Double Island (Trinity Beach) Road and the Cairns - Port Douglas Road.
