History behind the name

Harald Falge was born in Germany and moved to Australia at the age of 19 in 1969, he moved to Cairns in 1979 and lived here until he passed in February 2017, at the age of 66.

Harald was well known:

  • as a chiropractor in Cairns
  • for his work with the disadvantaged youth in the Cairns area
  • for running the Cairns Baptist Church Youth Group for several years.

Street Level Youth Care was born in 1991 and Harald was a part of this until his passing. This charity was run by Harald and set up by him with help from the Cairns Baptist Church, he also spent considerable time and money in setting up Street Level Youth Care During this time he worked full time, going out seven nights a week feeding homeless kids and finding shelter for them.  He started fundraising around the Cairns community to ensure this service would grow and the equipment required could be purchased.

Harald raised money for 'Harald House' which was open for a few years before his health declined.  Harald House was a halfway house used to home street kids on the condition they either attended school or searched for work giving the kids motivation to better themselves.
