A small playground park in Edge Hill, this outdoor space will suit families with young children. The shaded playground includes a slide and swings, while picnic tables beside the playground provide comfortable rest zones. Foliage to one side of the park gives this leafy outdoor space a natural feel.
History behind the name
Jim Gould built a house at Freshwater in 1938 on a large block of land and established a nursery on the spare land. He worked shift work as a loco driver. He worked briefly as a gardener at the Cairns Base Hospital and then became the curator of parks and gardens for the Cairns City Council, living in the residence at the Council nursery at Edge Hill for 13 years from 1953 until 1966. He then moved to Freshwater where he ran his own landscaping business until retirement. Jim died in 1990. Jim Gould Park in Pease Street, Edge Hill was named in his honour. The name was nominated by the Far North Queensland Horticultural Society. Adjacent to Byrne's Hill Park on Walsh Street.
