History behind the name
Sir Charles Todd (1826 - 1910) was born in London. He was an astronomer, meteorologist and electrical engineer. In 1855, at the request of the South Australian government he was appointed as an observer and superintendent of the electric telegraph. He played a key role in establishing the first national communications system, which was between Australia and India.
