Enjoy the atmosphere of Allen-Phillips Park's grassy terrain and mountain views. A walking track running through the park will suit dog walks (dogs on a lead please) and bike rides, while trees alongside the footpath offer shelter from the sun. Park benches are located throughout the park. With ample flat terrain, this park is also suitable for kids looking to kick a football with friends.
History behind the name
William John Allen Phillips, had various careers in Edmonton during his 60 years there, including road building, a truck hire business, milk and ice deliveries and poultry farming. In 1930 he was responsible for laying the first stretch of bitumen between Cairns and Edmonton.
John and his wife Marj were known to give generous donations of eggs and chickens to local charities. After retirement Allen became a keen gardener growing parsley and chillies and donating the proceeds from sales to the Blue Nurses. Marj passed away in 1980 and Allen passed away in 1995 at the age of 94.
