The Cairns Regional Council Major Grant Round is broad, encompassing and includes all arts streams. This category offers support towards projects and programs that create vibrant arts and cultural experiences, including but not limited to:

  • performances and exhibitions
  • increased skills and professional development opportunities for artists
  • new works that extend artists and art forms
  • community arts and cultural development
  • initiatives that strengthen cultural tourism and enhance cultural programs

Round One opens in September 2019 for projects that can start in January 2020. Round Two will open around April 2020 for projects that can start in July 2020.

Applicants are able to apply for up to $10,000.

How to apply: step by step

Applicants should download and save the Major Round application form, rather than working on it within an internet browser. Please use only Adobe Reader DC to save and work on these fillable forms on your computer. Adobe Reader DC runs on both Windows and Mac, and is free to download from www.adobe.com/au

  1. Read the RADF Guidelines ( PDF, 0.4 MB ), Eligibility Checklist ( PDF, 0.93 MB ) and Frequently Asked Questions ( PDF, 1.07 MB ) to determine whether your project is eligible for funding.
  2. Have a strong project idea in mind for funding and work out  the timeline of your activities in line with the grant round and guidelines.
  3. If there are others involved in your project, make sure they are available and willing to participate within the project’s timeframe.
  4. Download and read the Major Round application form ( PDF, 1.27 MB ).
  5. Call or email the RADF Liaison Officer (Council’s Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator) with details of your project.
  6. Fill in the application form and gather all of the required supporting material including quotes for any grant funded expenses; eligibility checklists for each artist involved; verification of rates of pay; support letters; CVs/Resumes etc.  Remember to also calculate and include any in-kind contributions according to verified sources of rates of pay.
  7. Contact the RADF Liaison Officer (Council’s Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator) one last time to make sure you have all of the required application material and your budget is correct.  Check that your expenditure column matches your income column.
  8. Submit your application and all of the required supporting material via the methods below.

A reply email will be sent to you on the next business day after the closing date, confirming receipt of your application.

RADF project highlights: Deep Roots (607.6 KB)
Deep Roots was an exhibition showcasing the latest discoveries from the Lit Sung Gong Temple collection (Feb 2017 to Jan 2018). It was a collaboration between Cairns Museum and CADCAI.

Gondwana Choir (821.2 KB)
In this project, non-Indigenous children from the Cairns region had the unique opportunity to collaborate with the internationally-acclaimed ensembles Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir and Gondwana Voices, The Australian Chamber Orchestra Inspire Quartet and Gerib Sik Torres Strait Islanders Dance Troupe, culminating in a public performance at St Monica’s Cathedral (October 2018).

Cairns Tropical Writers Festival 2018 successfully delivered a range of workshops, panel discussions, author presentations and catered events to a large and diverse local and visiting audience, allowing writers and readers of varied ages and cultural backgrounds to learn, explore and to share ideas, skills, and interests.
