COVID-19 impacts on the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) program

The RADF 2019/20 City of the Arts Hero Project grants will open Monday 27 April and close at 5pm Monday 25 May 2020 for projects than can start from 1 August 2020. Please make sure you use the current version of the application form (available to download below) reflecting these dates.

All applicants are required to discuss their projects with the Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator before submitting applications and will required to complete a Risk Assessment Questionnaire ( DOCX, 0.27 MB ) as part of their submission to ensure all proposals have considered government-issued COVID-19 public health guidelines.

Applications for City of the Arts Hero Project 2019/20 are now closed. Applications opened in April 2020 and closed in May 2020 for projects starting after 1 August 2020.

Cairns Regional Council RADF City of the Arts Hero Project 2019/20 opens in April 2020 for projects that start after 1 August 2020 and will provide funds for one large scale, high-calibre project (see application form for definition).

This major grant category will focus on:

  • a range of disciplines, with a preference towards collaborations that engage multi-art forms
  • the development of projects/products that:
    • produce high-quality and highly visible new works
    • have a regional, state or international outcome
    • create strong legacies for those engaged in the project and foster long-term and positive outcomes
    • address RADF criteria for investment as outlined in the application form: Quality, Reach, Impact and Viability.

Applications are open to individuals, organisations or creative collaborators with a strong professional track record and show strong investment from other funding sources.

Applicants are able to apply for up to $25,000. Only one grant will be awarded per year.

How to apply: step by step

Applicants should download and save the City of the Arts Hero Project application form, rather than working on it within an internet browser. Please use only Adobe Reader DC to save and work on these fillable forms on your computer. Adobe Reader DC runs on both Windows and Mac, and is free to download from www.adobe.com/au

  1. Read the RADF Guidelines ( PDF, 0.4 MB ), Eligibility Checklist ( PDF, 0.93 MB ) and Frequently Asked Questions ( PDF, 1.07 MB ) to determine whether your project is eligible for funding.
  2. Have a strong project idea in mind for funding and work out  the timeline of your activities in line with the grant round and guidelines.
  3. If there are others involved in your project, make sure they are available and willing to participate within the project’s timeframe.
  4. Download and read the City of the Arts application form ( PDF, 1.35 MB ).
  5. Call or email the RADF Liaison Officer (Council’s Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator) with details of your project well in advance of the grant deadline. This is a requirement for this grant stream.
  6. Fill in the application form and gather all of the required supporting material including quotes for any grant funded expenses; eligibility checklists for each artist involved; verification of rates of pay; support letters; CVs/Resumes etc.  Remember to also calculate and include any in-kind contributions according to verified sources of rates of pay.
  7. Contact the RADF Liaison Officer (Council’s Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator) one last time to make sure you have all of the required application material and your budget is correct.  Check that your expenditure column total matches your income column total.
  8. Submit your application and all of the required supporting material via the methods below.
