Close Contact header

The Cultural Services Team of Cairns Regional Council delivers an exciting program of projects and events each year catering to all sectors of the community around our beautiful city and unique venues, contributing to the creative diversity in the Far North.

We take pride in our program and can rely on our dedicated team of volunteers to help us out behind the scenes to ensure each event is successful and safe.

Cultural Services’ volunteer opportunities provide a range of benefits for people wanting to contribute their time to our projects including:

  • Meeting and working with a dynamic events team
  • Gaining experience
  • Working hands on in the community
  • Utilising the particular skills you already have to specific roles on each event
  • Having fun

We aim to give our volunteers a productive and positive experience, working together with us to present a vibrant program of community events throughout the year.

If you’re keen we’d love you to join the team!

Volunteer Opportunities for 2020 include:

  • Tanks Arts Centre Art Gallery
  • The Tanks Arts Centre and Botanic Gardens precinct is unique. No other facility in the world presents to the creative mind the same palette of physical, historical, cultural and environmental attributes. The Visual Arts Program at the Tanks is designed to stimulate a creative response to these attributes from artists, communities and visitors. The gallery provides a distinctive backdrop for presenting works. With its oil-stained concrete walls and interior poles, Tank 4 is far from a conventional, white-walled gallery and plays host to a variety of local and touring exhibitions, artist’s residencies and studio activity.

Gallery Sitter 10am – 2.30pm Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays (9am – 2.30pm on Tanks Market Days, last Sunday of each month

  • Cultural Services Data Collector

Surveys will be conducted at CPAC the Tanks Arts Centre and at other Cultural Services events throughout the year to assist with measuring short, medium and long-term outcomes from each project.

The festival aims to put creativity, adventure and innovation at the heart of its program whilst giving children the opportunity to showcase their skills to the Cairns community. • Cairns Festival 2020
    Friday 28 August – Sunday 6 September
  • Cairns Festival is Far North Queensland’s major annual creative celebration and will run from Friday 28 August to Sunday 6 September. It celebrates our creative community and unique sense of place with a vision that is simple, ‘To deliver a vibrant, progressive and collaborative community festival that is highly reflective and engaged with the community’.

The festival aims to seek greater regional and national recognition of our cultural identity in the Far North; to tell our unique stories and celebrate our distinctive, tropical lifestyle. We strive to produce an annual cultural celebration that means something to the residents of the Cairns region, and is available nowhere else on earth.

Attending the Information Booth, Assistant Marshal at Grand Parade, Registration Tent at Grand Parade and Site Assistant at other events over the 10-day duration of the Festival.

  • Understory Film Festival
    CPAC - Saturday 7 November
  • Understory Film Festival has been developed to encourage local independent, student, emerging and professional filmmakers in the Cairns and Far North Queensland region to create a short film to enter a competition for awards and prizes. The objectives of the film festival are to showcase local talent, build local industry capacity, award achievement and enhance audience development in short film culture.

Assist with the Screening and Awards Presentation from 6.30pm - 9.30pm.
