Community groups receive $17,700 for events

Three not-for-profit community groups will share in $17,700 funding under Council’s Local Community Event Grants.

The Far North Queensland African Community Association will receive $9,200 over three years for the annual Cairns African Festival, celebrating African culture through food, music and performances.

The FNQ German Austrian Swiss Association will receive $1,500 to stage its first German-style Christmas event offering traditional German markets, carols, dancing, food and bell ringing.

The Mulgrave Combined Cricket Association will receive $7,000 towards a two-day cricket carnival paying tribute to Phillip Minniecon, a past local Indigenous cricketer, with family friendly activities, cultural performances, an art exhibition, health information and free health checks.
