Cairns Regional Council will enter into a Resource and Performance Agreement with the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to support its activities in promoting sustainability of the reef and engaging people worldwide in the reef’s future.
The three-year agreement includes financial support worth $50,000 a year.
Mayor Bob Manning said the organisation shared Council’s objective of protecting and preserving the health of the Great Barrier Reef through education and best-practice tourism activities.
“The Great Barrier Reef is an iconic natural wonder of international significance, and Cairns is the gateway for visitors to explore reef,” he said.
“We look forward to working with the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation on initiatives that will benefit the reef and our region.
